Why is this post different from all other posts?

Thought I’d share what I posted as my out-of-office message for the next couple of days:

I will be offline from this afternoon through Wednesday evening (16-April 2014), and will not be checking email or phone messages until Thursday April 17th. Wishing all who observe a happy and meaningful Passover.

I find your lack of irony disturbing…

This morning, I found on my company’s microblog feed a post addressing the “concepts” of “smart work vs. hard work”. (Since it’s behind the firewall, I can’t share it – but that’s not the important thing, in any case.) When I started to read it, I realized three things:

  1. The post was, in fact, a serious attempt to define the term as two “concepts” and address the differences between them.
  2. It was written without any trace of irony, whatsoever.
  3. The author was probably still in school (primary or secondary) when I was already a somewhat seasoned cubicle survivor.

Out of those three realizations, I’m guessing #3 got to me the most. For a brief moment, I thought I was experiencing deja vu.  It was 1990-something all over again, and I was back on the cubicle farm:
